Most women don’t walk into my studio feeling bold or fearless. They walk in like she did — extremely nervous and holding themselves a little tight, unsure that they can pull it off.
When we spoke before her photo shoot, she told me something I hear more often than you’d expect: “I never like photos of myself”.
Deep down, she’d always dreamed of doing a boudoir session. She’d watched other women step into their power — strangers online, fellow moms, women who seemed to glow with a confidence she wished she had. But life never slowed down enough for her to put herself first.
Then one day, out of nowhere, a friend of her’s had her own boudoir shoot, seemingly without thinking twice about it. Something in her snapped! “Why the HELL am I not going for it?”
Never do I ever want to insist that you need to bring anything specific to your photo shoot. Why? — because you are your own unique person! Everyone has different things that they like and don’t like. The most important thing is that you feel confident in the pieces that you bring. When you feel confident on the inside, it comes across on camera!
Being vulnerable is never easy but I’m about to finally share something with you. These self portraits were done in January and this post has been sitting in drafts since then. Actually, to be honest, it’s developed from other forms and iterations over several years. The reason I haven’t posted it until now? Fear.
It’s now been 7 years since my brain injury. We all face different challenges in life, and this one has profoundly shaped my perspective through some very isolating experiences.
