What to Wear?! - The most popular question!

Never do I ever want to insist that you need to bring anything specific to your photo shoot. Why? — because you are your own unique person! Everyone has different things that they like and don’t like. The most important thing is that you feel confident in the pieces that you bring. When you feel confident on the inside, it comes accross on camera!

Don’t worry, I’m not going to just leave it at that. Here are some ideas of different things that you can wear for your photo shoot as well as where to shop locally! I usually suggest bringing 4-5 “outfits”. We may not use them all but it’s great to bring options with you on the day of your shoot.

  1. OVERSIZED SHIRT/SWEATER - Sometimes the best way to begin a shoot when you’re feeling vulnerable is to start with something you can feel comfortable in. Your favourite oversized shirt or sweater is great for this! While it covers enough so that you feel like you haven’t revealed your whole body yet, it can also be a cheeky tease while ‘falling off the shoulder’. Wear a pair of classic bottoms with it, or nothing at all!

  2. MATCHING SETS (CLASSIC BOUDOIR) - A simple choice! A matching bra and underwear set creates a cohesive look and it can sometimes be an easy option to find.

  3. BODYSUITS & ROMPERS (AKA TEDDIES) - A one piece that can give you some coverage while accentuating your curves. Bodysuits are usually easy to find in clothing stores. If you’re looking for something that really hugs your body though, I would suggest a lingerie store (see below!).

  4. JACKETS/COATS - Be it denim, leather or a fun faux fur, jackets can give an edgier feel. It can be paired with a bodysuit, matching set or just a pair of jeans.

  5. SATIN & SILK - Satin and silk fabrics drape and catch light beautifully while adding a luxurious feel to your images. Robes, slips and dresses in these materials can be very flattering.

  6. SHEER & MESH - Sheer and mesh pieces can add some allure. These fabrics can be revealing in a tasteful way while allowing for a playful and seductive look.

  7. LINGERIE - This is a sure way to make you feel more confident than your everyday self. Something in lace fitted to your figure can add romance and a hint of seduction to your shoot. If your goal is to show off or accentuate your curves, lingerie is a great option!

  8. CLIENT CLOSET - I have a small client closet here at the studio with some pieces that you are welcome to use and add to your looks during your shoot. There are various crop tops, both a white and a black flowy button up shirt, both a black lace robe and a white lace robe and some skirts. (If you’re curious, have a look during your consultation!)

  9. BUTTON UP SHIRT - Yes, as I just said, I have a couple in my client closet for you to use but if you’re looking for a more crisp men’s style shirt, it can give a great 'morning after’ feel.

  10. JEWELRY - Clients sometimes ask if they should bring jewelry. I don’t think you need to if you’re not someone that wears jewelry regularly. However if you have some favourites that you know go with some of your wardrobe pieces or you want that dripping in jewelry look, bring what you’d like!

  11. BODY CHAINS - These can be super fun to photograph! They’re more for the daring if that’s all you’ll be wearing. They’re also a great way to dress up a plain bodysuit or a simple lingerie.

  12. HIGH HEELS - These are not necessary for your shoot. Unless a client really wants a head to toe look or a certain pose that incorporates a high heel, I tell them not to worry about it! If you want a super bold and confident feel, you could wear them with nothing at all!

  13. WHITE SHEETS - Believe it or not, the white sheet can be one of the most comfortable things to shoot in and it’s often a client favourite! You could be mostly covered with your arms and one leg showing or go for a shot that barely leaves anything to the imagination.

  14. NUDE - Honestly, your birthday suit is the most beautiful thing you can wear for your photo shoot! We can show off your shape and highlight your curves with a variety of full length and detail shots.

Now — if you’re caught thinking that you haven’t the slightest idea where to start with all of this, I recommend going to Forever Yours Lingerie. No they are not in Chilliwack (they have locations in Langley and Burnaby) but believe me they are the most helpful and knowledgeable about the items they carry and have everything you could need from nipple covers to head to toe lingerie sets and full outfits. Follow them @foreveryourslingerie.
