Why are we always last on the list?

A lot of clients worry about when they should book their photo shoot. Life gets busy, schedules fill up, and planning something that’s entirely for you can feel like a big step. It usually ends up sliding so far down the to-do list that it never actually happens.

And as women, we’re really good at doing that — putting ourselves last.

We prioritize our families, our work, our responsibilities, and the endless list of things we feel we “should” be doing. But when it comes to something that’s meant to celebrate us, support our self-worth, or remind us of our own beauty… it’s often the first thing we push aside.

Not because we don’t want it, but because we feel like we need to wait for the “right” time.

The Truth: There’s Never a Perfect Time

Here’s what I’ve learned in years of photographing women: There is never a magical “perfect moment” where everything feels aligned, calm, and ready.

There will always be:

• One more thing on your plate
• One more reason to delay
• One more moment where you feel like you need to lose weight, tone up, grow your hair, feel less stressed, or “get your life together.”

But the deeper truth is this: You are worthy of being photographed right now — as you are.

Your future self will be grateful that you didn’t wait.

Why We Feel Guilty for Putting Ourselves First

One of the biggest things I hear from women is the guilt that comes with choosing something just for themselves. We’re taught — directly or indirectly — that our value comes from taking care of others, keeping everything running, being responsible, being strong, being “on top of it all.”

So when something is meant to fill us up, rather than what we give to others, it can feel selfish… even though it’s not.

That guilt is the voice that says:

• “I’ll do it later.”
• “I should spend the money elsewhere.”
• “It’s not that important.”
• “I should focus on everyone else first.”

But here’s the truth:

You are allowed to do something for yourself without earning it.
You don’t need a milestone or a reason.
And it is never selfish to honour yourself.

In fact — choosing yourself is often the exact thing that helps you show up more grounded, more confident, and more connected in the rest of your life.

Take the first step & give yourself time

I recommend booking as early as you can. This gives you time so you don’t have to figure everything out right away. Time to think about your wardrobe. Time to get excited. Time to plan, dream, and explore the kind of images you want to create. Time to let it feel real.

Start by putting down your deposit—it gives you breathing room to prepare, gets it off the “someday” list, and makes the cost feel more manageable. We can do your consultation afterward to keep everything easy and stress-free.

Why This Matters So Much

Having beautiful portraits of yourself isn’t just about them being beautiful images. It’s about allowing yourself to be seen — fully, honestly, and without apology.

It’s about acknowledging that:

• you deserve to honour your story,
• you deserve to celebrate your presence in this world,
• you deserve to experience being taken care of for a day,
• and you deserve to exist in photos that reflect your worth.

When you book with me, you’re not just scheduling a shoot. You’re giving yourself permission to step forward in a way that so many women rarely do.

It becomes a turning point.

The Reminder We All Need

It’s okay to put yourself first sometimes. It’s okay to invest in the things that make you feel seen and supported. It’s okay to want something beautiful for no reason other than that you’re worthy of it. And if you’ve been thinking about a shoot — even in that quiet, “maybe someday” way — consider this your sign.

The right time isn’t in the future.
It’s whenever you decide you deserve it.

And you do.

Whenever you’re ready, I’m here to help you create something beautiful.
